Hilo Tour

Waterfalls, the Hilo Bay tide pools and the gardens, on short drives and hard surface throughout.

  • Rainbow Falls (Waiānuenue). A level paved approach runs from the parking area to the main viewing platform with zero steps. Best light is before 10 a.m.
  • Carlsmith Beach Park, Hilo Bay. Spring fed tide pools that run unusually clear, with honu often resting close in. Paved parking and lawn reach the water’s edge, so guests view the pools without leaving hard ground.
  • Botanical gardens. Flat paved paths through tropical planting, with benches and shade along the route. Chosen on the day to suit the weather and your timings.

Four hours in the national park, or eight that adds lava fields, a black sand beach and our Kalapana center.

  • Four hour. A general tour of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Caldera overlooks, the steam bluff and Devastation Trail, all on paved surface, with accessible restrooms built into the route.
  • Eight hour. Everything in the four hour tour, then out across the lava fields with a meal stop, a black sand beach, and our own visitor center standing on the lava field at Kalapana.

Operator questions

Common questions from trade partners

How many passengers can you take?

One wheelchair passenger plus up to five additional passengers, traveling together in the same vehicle. Companions, caregivers and your own guide all count toward the five.

Will you follow our itinerary and timings?

Yes. On overflow and charter bookings we run your stop list to your schedule and return inside whatever buffer you specify. For port days we apply a conservative all-aboard buffer as standard and confirm it in the quote.

What equipment can the vehicle take?

The ramp is fully automated and ADA compliant, and takes power chairs and four wheel scooters. Send us the make and model, or the width and length, and we will confirm in writing before you sell the booking.

Can our guide ride along?

Yes. A guide seat is included on charter bookings. On overflow bookings your guide normally stays with the coach and meets us at each stop.

Does the vehicle carry your branding?

The vehicle is unmarked and tinted. On charter bookings it presents as your vehicle for the day. Magnetic panel branding can be arranged if you supply artwork.

How do you handle weather?

The east side receives rain most days. We hold indoor and west side substitutions in every itinerary and will reroute on the day at no change to the quoted rate. Vog and volcanic activity are checked each morning and we advise your operations desk if a caldera stop needs to move.
